Passage of HB1285 Means Changes on the Horizon for the Florida Institute
 

During the 2018 session, the Florida Legislature passed HB1285: Florida Business Entities, which will go into effect July 1, 2018. The bill authorizes the Institute to privatize management of its loan and investment portfolios and expands the scope of Institute investment activities. Stay tuned for more details on this exciting development as the Institute continues to evolve to better meet the early funding needs of Florida’s innovation-based economy.
 


 

 

 

Altavian Awarded $250 Million US Army Contract
 

Gainesville-based Altavian, Inc., an Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) engineering and manufacturing firm announced the award of a $250MM Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity contract with the US Army. Under the Program Executive Office of Aviation, Products Office for Tactical Unmanned Aircraft (TUAS), Altavian will be supporting the largest small UAS program in the world. More details may be viewed here.
 



Biim Ultrasound and AngioDynamics Introduce FDA-Approved Handheld Ultrasound Device
 
Guiding a big shift in patient care, Boca Raton-based Biim Ultrasound, has created a portable, pocketable, and flexible device making ultrasound easier and more accessible. Leading family footwear provider Shoe Carnival, with over 400 stores across thirty-three states, announced a key partnership with the leading innovator in dynamic email receipts, Windemere-based flexReceipts.  Entrinsic Health Announces Efficacy Study Results
 

Newberry-based Entrinsic Health Solutions, Inc., an innovative health sciences company dedicated to the development and commercialization of amino acid-based technologies, announced the publication of research showing that enterade® – a liquid-based medical food that is comprised of amino acids and is glucose-free – provides superior rehydration compared to popular sports drinks. The study was led by the U.S. Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine (USAREIM) and published online in the Journal of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition. More details may be viewed here.

Formed by the Florida Legislature in 2007, the Florida Institute for the Commercialization of Public Research is a non-profit organization that works collaboratively with the technology licensing and commercialization offices of Florida’s state universities and private research institutions to leverage a $2.5B+ research base and form investable companies that create clean jobs in new industries that are driving the global economy. The Institute provides company building services, and seed funding through the Florida Technology Seed Capital Fund, to promising Florida startups. Seventy-two companies have been funded to date, and the Institute’s economic impact through June 30, 2017 was $970 million, with an annual return on investment of 26 times to the State of Florida.
