Biim® Ultrasound Receives 510(k) Clearance by the U.S. FDA
 
Biim Ultrasound announced that their Biim linear probe and Biim software app received FDA clearance as a diagnostic ultrasound system. The Biim Diagnostic Ultrasound System is intended for diagnostic ultrasound imaging for the human body. Specific clinical applications include musculoskeletal, needle guidance, pediatric, peripheral vessel, and small organs, and the company plans to launch the system by the end of the year. More details may be viewed here.

BioFront Technologies and Biorex Food Diagnostics Announce Food Safety Partnership
 
BioFront Technologies announced that it has been appointed as the North America distributor for the UK-based Biorex Food Diagnostics food safety diagnostic platform. Biorex customers will have access to BioFront’s comprehensive Food Allergen Test Kit line. More details may be viewed here.
 

 
 
Occipital Acquires Paracosm
Companies plan to pursue multiple projects to bring spatial computing to a wider audience
 
The Paracosm team has joined Occipital, a spatial computing company that develops state-of-the-art mobile computer vision applications.  Based in Gainesville, members of the Paracosm team are experts in 3D mapping, and have developed computer vision and SLAM technologies to deliver cutting-edge mobile 3D scanning solutions. In 2016, the company built the world's 1st handheld LiDAR scanner with color data to bring 3D to the forefront of design and construction, and Occipital now will be able to apply its SLAM platform to anything from a single-camera smartphone to sophisticated LiDAR-based systems. More details may be viewed here.
 

 
 
 
IRIS Awarded "Most Improved Business of the Year" at Entrecon
Company provides early screening for diabetic retinopathy and other eye diseases
 
Institute-funded Intelligent Retinal Imaging Systems (IRIS) received the "Most Improved Business of the Year" award at this year’s Entrecon conference. The annual conference focuses on entrepreneurship and continued learning and delivers tactical business advice for growth and leadership success. The event was held in Pensacola on November 14 - 16 and Institute Entrepreneur-in-Residence, Lawrence Tinker, PhD, attended in support of IRIS and other local entrepreneurial ventures.
 

 

 
Seventeen Companies Presented at the Florida Venture Forum VentureTech Showcase in Boca Raton
 
Tom Schultz (pictured above), CEO of Institute-funded FreshSurety, was one of the presenting companies at the Florida Venture Forum VentureTech Showcase, a capital acceleration competition and business-networking event held on November 16th at the FAU Tech Runway. Florida Institute Marketing Coordinator, Heather Thompson, attended the event in support of FreshSurety and other local entrepreneurs.
 

 

 
Wabash CoCure Hybrid Metal Composite Trailer to Be Unveiled
 
Join Structural Composites, Inc. for a discussion on the evolution of all-composite semi-trailers on December 15th at 11:00 am, and enjoy a preview and tours of the trailer. Applications are Open for the 2018 Florida Venture Capital Conference
Application deadline extended to December 20, 2017
 
The Florida Venture Forum is accepting applications to present at the 2018 conference and early submissions are welcomed and encouraged as a limited number of presenter spots are available. The deadline to submit is December 20, 2017. These applications will be reviewed by a selection committee comprised of venture capitalists and private equity investors. If selected, presenting companies will be charged $599 for their first conference attendee and a $50 exhibit fee. To ensure optimum coverage, there is a discounted fee of $399 per additional attendee from the presenting company. More details and the application may be viewed here.

Formed by the Florida Legislature in 2007, the Florida Institute for the Commercialization of Public Research is a non-profit organization that works collaboratively with the technology licensing and commercialization offices of Florida’s state universities and private research institutions to leverage a $2.5B+ research base and form investable companies that create clean jobs in new industries that are driving the global economy. The Institute provides company building services, and seed funding through the Florida Technology Seed Capital Fund, to promising Florida startups. Seventy-two companies have been funded to date, and the Institute’s economic impact through June 30, 2017 was $970 million, with an annual return on investment of 26 times to the State of Florida.
