 Florida Institute Undergoes Name Change
 
The Institute for Commercialization of Public Research is now known as the Institute for Commercialization of Florida Technology. This change was enacted through legislation that was passed in March (HB 1285) and went into effect on July 1, 2018. All contact information will remain the same, but please continue to check the Institute website for additional news and updates. 

 


   
RFP for Private Fund Management Services Closes August 16, 2018
 
The Institute for Commercialization of Florida Technology issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the services of an individual, a company, an investment firm or an investment fund to act as a Private Fund Manager.  Candidates responding to the RFP shall have experience in investing and managing investments in emerging growth companies in the State of Florida, in addition to other requirements, and shall further provide the Scope of Services referenced in the RFP. Admiral Recognized by Red Herring as Top 100 in North America
 
Adblock recovery platform and visitor relationship management pioneer Admiral, recently announced it was selected as a finalist for Red Herring Magazine's Top 100 North America award, a prestigious list honoring the year's most promising private technology ventures from the North American business region. Meridian Behavioral Healthcare and TAO Connect Form Partnership
to Improve Mental Health

 
Meridian Behavioral Healthcare sees a variety of patients in a variety of settings: clinics, stabilization units, recovering centers. By partnering with TAO Connect, a digital mental health resource platform designed for clinicians and patients, the company will expand treatment options for patients by making intervention more accessible. Kairos Acquires EmotionReader, Advances Fundraising Goals Through Initial Coin Offering 
 
Kairos, a leader in facial recognition technology, has announced the acquisition of EmotionReader, an Ireland-based startup that uses algorithms to analyze facial expressions around video content. Additionally, the company is raising a $30 million Initial Coin Offering (ICO) to support future growth. More information may be viewed here.
 




Aviana Joins New Lake Nona Life Sciences Incubator 
 
Aviana Molecular Technologies, a point of care (POC) diagnostic company developing a miniaturized biosensor capable of attaching to a smartphone/smart device through Bluetooth or other wireless connections, is one of the first five companies to have taken space in the University of Central Florida's new 10,000-square-foot Lake Nona Life Sciences Incubator. The space opened on the second floor of the GuideWell Innovation Center building, and now has three office-based and two lab-based companies as tenants. The goal is to help health and science entrepreneurs just beginning their businesses in the region. More information may be viewed here

The Florida Institute has partnered with the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition to host the upcoming event, America's Role in the World: Why Leading Globally Matters for Florida. Join featured speaker Representative Ted Yoho from the U.S. House of Representatives for lunch to discuss the positive impact of global affairs programs in Florida. Formed by the Florida Legislature in 2007, the Institute for Commercialization of Florida Technology is a non-profit organization that works collaboratively with the technology licensing and commercialization offices of Florida’s state universities and private research institutions to leverage a $2.5B+ research base and form investable companies that create clean jobs in new industries that are driving the global economy. The Institute provides company building services, and seed funding through the Florida Technology Seed Capital Fund, to promising Florida startups. Seventy-two companies have been funded to date, and the Institute’s economic impact through June 30, 2017 was $970 million, with an annual return on investment of 26 times to the State of Florida.
