5 Fla. Universities Among Top 100 for Patents

ORLANDO | Five Florida universities have been ranked among the top 100 universities in the world for patents.

The rankings by the National Academy of Inventors and the Intellectual Property Owners Association are for patents awarded in 2012. The list is based on data from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

University of South Florida researchers received 79 patents and were ranked No. 15, the highest among Florida schools on the list of 100. The University of Central Florida ranked No. 21 with 72 patents, the University of Florida Research Foundation was No. 22 with 70 patents, Florida State was No. 55 with 32 patents, and the University of Miami was No. 92 with 21 patents.
