Paracosm Featured in AECbytes as Optimum Data Capture Solution

Paracosm, a cloud-based software company that transforms reality into 3D models, was featured with beta customer Caveo Consulting Engineers in AECbytes (Architecture Engineering Construction) recently as an alternative to laser scanning. Paracosm’s team of computer vision and 3D graphic experts has developed a cloud-based platform that uses consumer-grade depth cameras to replace expensive and complex 3D surveying and modeling workflows. According to William Speakman, Building Information Modeling (BIM) Analyst at Caveo Consulting Engineers, Paracosm’s 3D scanning provided a better solution in the challenging healthcare environments in which they work, producing accurate and easier to share images while enabling the company to scan areas without disturbing or relocating occupants.

One Spark Creator Innovation Day Conference

Dr. Jackson Streeter presented at the One Spark Creator Innovation Day Conference at the Hyatt Regency in Jacksonville held on April 7, 2016. The conference was a full-day state-of-the-art program created by Jacksonville Community of Entrepreneurs (JAXCoE) and One Spark Ventures, that provided creators and entrepreneurs with information, tools and local resources to move their ideas from concept to company. This year’s conference featured an opening address by Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry, as well as over 60 speakers and breakout sessions led by experts in four tracks: innovating your business, protecting your idea or business, funding your business, and running your business.


Vigilant Biosciences Announces Publication of Research on Risk Stratification System for Oral Cancer

Vigilant Biosciences, Inc. (Vigilant), is a leading innovator and developer of solutions that aid in the early detection and intervention of cancer. The company announced that Cancer Prevention Research, a peer-reviewed medical journal of the American Association for Cancer Research, published an article on clinical research establishing proof-of-concept for the technology licensed and now under commercial development as part of the Company’s OncAlert™ Oral Cancer product line.



KynderMed Named Finalist for Cade Museum Prize for Innovation

KynderMed, a company that has developed a safe, non-invasive medical device that enables at-risk women to avoid the onset of premature labor, has been selected as a finalist for the 7th Annual $50,000 Cade Museum Prize for Innovation. The Prize is an annual competition for early-stage inventors and entrepreneurs in Florida that provides seed capital and publicity for great ideas with market potential.



Florida Growth Fund Holds Annual Meeting

 
The Florida Growth Fund held their annual meeting in Tallahassee on March 24, 2016, where Institute Board Chairman Rick Wassel and Institute Vice Chairman David Day joined Hamilton Lane and other stakeholders to discuss Florida’s innovation and investment ecosystem. The Florida Growth Fund manages $750 million of capital dedicated to prudent investment in technology and growth related businesses with significant presence in the state of Florida, and seeks to enhance Florida’s capacity for development, growth and innovation while simultaneously generating an attractive return for the Florida State Board of Administration.


Florida Patent Pro Bono Program Director Presents at
Florida IP Symposium

Dana Vouglitois, Esq., Program Director for the  Florida Patent Pro Bono Program, presented at the Intellectual Property Law Committee of the Florida Bar’s 7th Annual Intellectual Property Symposium at the Renaissance Orlando at SeaWorld on April 7, 2016, where she discussed program goals and progress to date, as well as benefits of volunteering for patent agents and attorneys. The Institute launched the Florida Patent Pro Bono Program in early 2014 in collaboration with the US Patent and Trademark Office, to help under-resourced inventors with several aspects of the patent prosecution process. The program is now offered in all 50 states.

Formed by the Florida Legislature in 2007, the Florida Institute for the Commercialization of Public Research is a non-profit organization that works collaboratively with the technology licensing and commercialization offices of Florida’s state universities and private research institutions to leverage a $2B+ research base and form investable companies that create clean jobs in new industries that are driving the global economy. The Institute provides company building services, and seed funding through the Florida Technology Seed Capital Fund, to promising Florida startups. Forty-eight companies have been funded to date, and the Institute’s economic impact through June 30, 2015 was $379 million, a return on investment of 14 times to the State of Florida.
