Companies Compete for Top Honor at BioFlorida’s 20th Anniversary Conference
Winner of BioPitch Announced at Closing Session
 
Seed and early stage companies participated in the BioPitch competition at the BioFlorida 20th Anniversary Conference which took place October 15 - 17 in St. Petersburg. BioPitch provides participants with opportunities for coaching as well as presentations to investors for feedback and potential funding. Fifteen companies participated in closed-door sessions on Monday afternoon, and the four semi-finalists included Alertgy (Daytona Beach), FloSpine (Boca Raton), Interpares Biomedicine (Land O’Lakes) and Jupiter Orphan Technologies(Jupiter). Each company presented at the General Session on Tuesday, with Interpares Biomedicine, an early-stage medical therapeutics company focused on providing personalized medicine solutions to inform cancer immunotherapy decisions, receiving top recognition.


 
 
Biscayne Neurotherapeutics Reports Successful Phase 1b Clinical Trial Results for its Novel Antiepileptic Agent
 
Biscayne Neurotherapeutics, a clinical-stage company developing novel agents for the treatment of neurological disorders, announced results from a Phase 1b trial of its novel antiepileptic compound, BIS-001ER. In the trial, the new extended release version of BIS-001 has met or surpassed all pre-defined endpoints.  More details may be viewed here.
 

               
Tallahassee Research Centers Advancing Innovation, Commercialization

Florida Institute, FAU Tech Runway, and Research Park at FAU Host Session on Cybersecurity and Digital Diplomacy

On October 18th, three South Florida entities collaborated to host speakers from the Israel Public Diplomacy Forum.  Dr. Eytan Gilboa and Mr. Ido Sivan-Sevilla joined attendees at FAU Tech Runway to discuss ever-evolving cybersecurity threats and new strategies to prevent attacks, within the context of digital diplomacy. The session was part of a weeklong dialogue that featured presentations across the Palm Beach region on related topics. The Israel Public Diplomacy Forum is a non-profit, non-partisan, educational organization established to advance international understanding of Israel and the Middle East. Closing Keynote Panel Announced for SEBIO Investor and Partnering Forum

Venture capital continues to play a critical role in financing innovation in the life sciences. The Southeast BIO Investor and Partnering Forum will feature a panel of prominent industry investors on November 16, 2017 in Pinehurst, NC. The panel will focus on current trends, including the unprecedented amount of capital currently flowing into the industry and the state of the public markets. More details about the conference may be viewed here.


 


Gulf Power Hosts 21st Annual Economic Symposium at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort

The 21st Annual Gulf Power Economic Symposium took place October 2 - 3 brought together business leaders in the Northwest Florida region to discuss the latest growth efforts of the community. Intelligent Retinal Imaging Systems and Mine Survival, both Institute portfolio companies, were in attendance and featured for their efforts. Application Deadline for 2018 Florida Venture Forum Capital Conference Extended to December 20, 2017

The Florida Venture Forum is accepting applications to present at the 2018 conference, and early submissions are welcomed and encouraged as a limited number of presenter spots are available. The deadline to submit is December 20, 2017. These applications will be reviewed by a selection committee comprised of venture capitalists and private equity investors. If selected, presenting companies will be charged $599 for their first conference attendee and a $50 exhibit fee. To ensure optimum coverage, there is a discounted fee of $399 per additional attendee from the presenting company. More details and the application may be viewed here.

The Institute provides company building services, and seed funding through the Florida Technology Seed Capital Fund, to promising Florida startups. Seventy-two companies have been funded to date, and the Institute’s economic impact through June 30, 2017 was $970 million, with an annual return on investment of 26 times to the State of Florida.
