Message from the Business Manager

It has now been over three months since Florida recorded its first confirmed COVID-19 case. Since then, we have recorded over 75,000 cases in this State, and over 21,000 small businesses have applied for Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDL) exceeding a total of $1.9 billion. As we are all navigating throughout these challenging times, I want to thank all the entrepreneurs who have dedicated themselves to building great companies and disruptive technologies for their dedication and perseverance. Furthermore, I’d like to thank the Institute Board of Directors, Leadership Council members, associates, research partners, and community partners for continuing to share our vision of driving innovation-based economic development throughout Florida, helping to improve everyone’s lives. The Institute is committed more than ever to help create additional high-wage technology jobs across the State.

SegAna Modifies Cancer Treatment Software to Help Coronavirus Patients

SegAna Tech CEO Rodney Bosley was recently interviewed by Spectrum News 13. SegAna is currently modifying its existing Cancer Treatment Software to help coronavirus patients requiring the help of ventilators. SegAna’s cancer treatment software received FDA clearance earlier this year. It can locate precisely where the radiation treatment is going, which helps prevent any damage to healthy tissues. The new modification will help prevent ventilator lung injury among coronavirus patients, saving lives of patients that may otherwise suffer severe consequences. With its patented technology from UCLA and UCF, the company received another round of funding by the Florida Institute earlier this year.

SegAna and Aerosens were selected for Aerospace Innovation & Tech Forum Webinar Series by the Florida Venture Forum and Space Florida

Two of the Institute’s portfolio companies showcased their technical solutions virtually in a diverse mix of companies with innovative and inspirational technologies at an event hosted by the Florida Venture Forum and Space Florida in May. Aerosens provides a cloud-based platform to maximize aircraft cabin security and increased process efficiency for airlines while reducing costs. SegAna utilizes artificial intelligence and proprietary algorithms to minimize tissue damage caused by radiation in cancer treatments. SegAna’s life-saving software is also being modified to avoid ventilator lung injury for coronavirus patients. More information can be found here.
