OBMedical Company Receives Florida Institute Funding

Seed Funds to Accelerate Device Development, Testing, and Launch

Gainesville and Boca Raton, FL – September 9, 2013 - The Institute for Commercialization of Public Research (the Institute) announced today that it has finalized a funding agreement with Gainesville-based OBMedical Company. OBMedical has developed the LaborView™ sensor system that measures labor contractions as well as maternal and fetal heart rates.

LaborView™, technology jointly developed by the University of Florida and Convergent Engineering, is a technologically-advanced, wireless electronic maternal-fetal monitor. According to company President Weaver Gaines, “LaborView grows out of over a decade of biomedical research across multiple disciplines, resulting in an innovative solution that is compatible with legacy electronic fetal monitors. Knowledge around the birth process has changed over the last 40 years, but technology has not. We intend for LaborView to take maternal fetal monitoring to the cutting edge, where it should be. The Institute funds will help support the remaining clinical performance trial, industrial design, and design for manufacturing necessary for our filing for 510(k) clearance.”

“OBMedical is addressing a critical need to improve the overall health of women and the safety of babies.” said Jamie Grooms, Institute Chief Executive Officer. “The Institute has enjoyed learning about company progress to date, and looks forward to participating in OBMedical’s future success.”
