MELBOURNE — Groundswell Startups will host its grand opening this March 24 at 5 p.m. The 24/7 access riverfront coworking space is within walking distance of Downtown Melbourne. The former indoor skatepark now represents one of the largest privately-owned, nonprofit incubators in the southeast.
Since June 2015, Groundswell has helped seven local founders secure angel investment. All startups at Groundswell build a suite of pro bono mentors, or industry-experts, who work with their company to bring products and services to market. Startups may also choose to work with
venture capitalists and seasoned entrepreneurs to navigate the fundraising process and get introductions to c-suite contacts in the venture community. Dozens of marketing, sales, intellectual property, software and cybersecurity experts have donated millions in billable hours as part of their commitment to strengthening the Space Coast startup community. Groundswell takes no equity stake in any company. All services are free.
“We have the highest concentration of engineering talent per capita here in the Space Coast,” Bud Deffebach, Groundswell co-founder said. “At Groundswell, we’re connecting high quality companies with the business infrastructure they need as well as a place to work 24/7.”
As part of the grand opening, Groundswell will recognize its regional partnerships with groups like the FireSpring Fund and Starter Studio accelerator program in Orlando as well as Domi Station, a startup incubator in Tallahassee. The event will highlight how collaborations like these serve to increase access to capital and lower barriers to resources for startups.
